2011 Conference - the most successful conference to date
The MI and QA conference this year was undoubtedly the most successful run to date both in terms of the numbers who attended and the participants feedback. The conference was run in Sydney this year on 28 and 29 September 2011 at the Menzies Hotel. It was attended by a record 105 delegates and their responses in the feedback sheets indicated that the speakers and organisation were very well received.
The keynote speaker, Terry Cassidy who heads up the animal welfare unit of the EU’s Food and Veterinary Office, spoke on the new animal welfare legislation being introduced in 2013 that will affect slaughter establishments within the EU and in countries exporting to the EU. The second time he addressed the conference it was on trends in animal welfare through the red meat supply chain.
Ira Stapp from Asure in New Zealand came and spoke on feedback provided to Kiwi farmers on post mortem inspection results and Lorna Citer (Animal Health Australia) spoke on the possibility of this service being developed in Australia.
Other speakers spoke on the changes in the meat inspection arrangements at export establishments and the new FSIS E.coli testing arrangements.
The conference also attracted a significant and increased number of exhibitors and sponsors all whom greatly benefited from being part of the conference.
